Getting X and Y coordinates.

Start ArcView, open a view with the point shapefile in it, and highlight the shapefile in the view table of contents by clicking on it (Samplepts.shp below).  Then, press the Open Theme Table icon.

Start editing the table.

Name the field X and be sure type is number.

Choose Field Calculate.

Double click on shape in the Field Calculator Window.

Type ".GetX" after [Shape] and press OK.

The X coordinates appear in the attribute table.

Repeat with the Y coordinate, save the table and stop editing.  The changes will be saved to Samplepts.dbf, which can be imported into a database program such as ACCESS or to a spreadsheet program such as EXCEL.
